Ahead of the FA Cup final clash against Crystal Palace, embattled Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said winning the silverware is essential for his side, not only for his own future but also for the sake of club's players and supporters.

Besides Community Shield title three years ago, United have not won the silverware since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson secured the Premier League title in his final season in charge in 2012-13.

Van Gaal's job has been under scrutiny following the club's inconsistent performance in this season and due to their early exit from the Champions League.

"I think the interest of the club is much more important, and the interest of the fans. You put your own aims, of course, and that's one of the aims I've always had," Van Gaal was quoted as saying by goal.com.

"I think the fans are more concerned about the title than I am because a title for the fans is fantastic and we want to give it. I said that in my speech on the pitch. They were always there, unconditional. They've never let us down. They deserve it more than anyone else," he added.

However, United are now on verge of winning a title after they made their place to the FA Cup final by claiming a 2-1 victory over Everton.

Reflecting on the same, the Dutchman said his side had only made it to the finals and still one step away from winning the title.

"It's always important to win silverware. Qualification is not a title - a title is the FA Cup, the championship. For players, it's very important, because they can hold the cup, and that's an exciting moment. Especially in England, because the FA Cup is a big title. It's the most prestigious temple of England," he added.

Van Gaal further said that his side's away victories prior to the semi-final win depicts that the Old Trafford club deserved to be in the finals.

United will aim for the FA Cup glory when they will take on Crystal Palace at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
