Manchester United football team manager Louis van Gaal has admitted after the 1-1 draw at Sunderland that a return of a single point from his first two Premier League matches in charge is not acceptable.

Van Gaal's opening league game ended in a 2-1 home defeat by Swansea City followed by the recent 1-1 draw to Sunderland.

Van Gaal said that United has one point and that is not good enough for the club, and added that they have to work a lot. He said that the players are very disappointed after the game because they thought they would win, The BBC reported.

The Dutchman said that one can never say how long it would take to turn the club's fortunes around because when one wins the next match, the confidence comes back.

Juan Mata fired the visitors into a 17th-minute lead at a time when Sunderland were threatening on a sustained basis.

However, the lack of a good defense proved the visitors' undoing as Jack Rodwell was allowed to head the home side level on the half-hour from a Sebastian Larsson corner.

Although United dominated the latter stages, they could not find a winner.

But Van Gaal insisted that they might have been awarded a penalty after first Robin van Persie then Ashley Young went down in the box, the latter earning a yellow card for his pains, the report added.
