Vertonghen tips Townsend to become 'next Gareth Bale' for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur player Jan Vertonghen has said that he believes teammate Andros Townsend can be the club's new Gareth Bale by continuing his good form.

According to the Mirror, English football's man of the moment capped an incredible 10 days by scoring his first Premier League goal for Spurs on Sunday, after decorating his international debut with a long-range stunner against Montenegro and earning a massive pay-rise.

Townsend's astonishing transformation from loan fodder to England star has left fans of the White Hart Lane club daring to dream they have unearthed an oven-ready replacement for 86 million pound world-record export Bale, the report said.

Vetonghen said that while playing with Andros in training lat year, he thought that why this player was not featuring in the club's matches every week, given the talent he had.

He added that Townsend could be the next Gareth Bale as he had so much pace, tekkers and skill, and can destroy the opponents with both feet, adding that he just hopes that his teammate keeps going like this and becomes their best-ever player.
