Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel has officially joined the Italian giant Ferrari to partner Kimi Raikkonen by signing three-year contract as former driver Fernando Alonso has confirmed his exit from the team.
German multiple champion Vettel, who considers Michael Schumacher as his greatest idol, said that it is an incredible honour to get the chance to drive a Ferrari. According to Ferrari chief Marco Mattiacci, Vettel possesses unique combination of youthfulness and experience, the BBC reported.
Aiming to be front runners next season, Mattiacci further said that Vettel's contribution would prove precious when, together with teammate Kimi, they counter upcoming challenges.
On the other hand, two time world champion Fernando Alonso said that it would be like leaving family. He believes that the past five years with Ferrari has produced some of his best moments of career.
Alonso, who was narrowly edged past by Vettal for the world title in both 2010 and 2012, is expected to join McLaren in the next season.
