Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari has strongly condemned the heinous killing of innocent civilians in Assam.
He has called for firm and urgent action against the culprits and also called for an immediate end to the senseless violence.
Expressing grief at the loss of precious lives, he has conveyed his deep condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has termed the killings of civilians by militants in Assam as an act of terror and not a mere case of insurgency. He said that the Centre has taken the matter very seriously and zero tolerance policy will be adopted against terrorism. He also said that operation will be launched against National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction).
Meanwhile, the security forces are maintaining a strict vigil at violence-hit areas. Curfew continues in many areas following the violence. 74 persons lost their lives in recent violence.
