Vice President to visit Peru, Cuba, UK

Vice President Hamid Ansari will pay an official visit to Peru, Cuba and the United Kingdom from October 25 to November 2.

Vice President Ansari's visits to Peru and Cuba will be the first ever Indian visit at the vice presidential level.

The Vice President will be in Peru from October 26 to October 29, and is expected to hold a comprehensive dialogue with his counterpart Marisol Espinoza Cruz.

Vice President Ansari is also scheduled to meet with the Peru Foreign Minister and Minister for Foreign Trade and Tourism.

Vice President Ansari will also call on President Ollanta Humala during his time in Peru.

Ansari's visit coincides with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Peru, and he is scheduled to inaugurate the Cultural Festival of India in Lima to commemorate the historic event.

India and Peru enjoy warm and friendly ties, which are characterised by the exchange of regular visits and supported by economic interests.

The Vice President will be in Cuba on 29th and 30th of October, during which he will hold wide-ranging bilateral talks with his counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

During his visit to Cuba, Ansari is also scheduled to call on President of Cuba Raul Castro on October 30.

Ansari is also expected to inaugurate a Cultural Festival of India in Havana during the visit.

India and Cuba enjoy historical and cordial relations as founding members of NAM. They maintain close contacts on issues of common interest. Their bilateral relations are characterised by active cooperation in the field of Energy, Biotechnology and Sports. OVL has an active presence in the Cuban EEZ.

In the last leg of his tour, Ansari will be visiting the United Kingdom to deliver a public lecture at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies on November 1 with the theme "Identity and Citizenship".

The Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada, four Members of Parliament, senior officials and media will accompany Vice President Ansari on his three-nation visit.
