The Vietnamese government had blocked the social networking site Facebook in the country during the visit of President Barack Obama, claims two activist organisations.

The move was aimed at imposing strictures on human rights activists and political dissidents during the U.S. President's visit.

Officials of Access Now, a digital rights organisation, and Viet Tan, a Vietnamese pro-democracy group, said the social media site was restricted and at times blocked inside Vietnam from Sunday to Wednesday, Reuters reports.

Obama's three-day visit to Vietnam ended on Wednesday. Obama largely focused on normalising relations with Vietnam. President Obama arrived in Japan after concluding his Vietnam trip for a summit of the Group of Seven nations.
