General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong met Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar on Thursday to enhance strategic relations between the two countries.
Trong, who is visiting India from November 19 to November 22, has been invited by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Dr. Singh will host a banquet in Trong's honour, and both the leaders are likely to hold talks on the India-Vietnam strategic partnership.
The Vietnamese general secretary will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, and several other leaders including External Affairs Minister, Salman Khurshid.
Trong will also address the business community at an event organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Indian Industry and Assocham in Mumbai.
The two countries have close and friendly relations and share common interests and multi-dimensional cooperation and mutual benefit.
