Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Saturday said that there was no need to increase the salary of the MLAs and accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of doing opposite of what it had promised before the elections.
"They are raising taxes and putting a burden on the people. Now, they want to increase the salary of their leaders..... AAP is just thinking about itself...They are doing exactly opposite of what they had promised before the elections. Their focus is not on people...Whatever salary is being given is sufficient, there is no need to raise the salary by putting tax burden on the people," Gupta told ANI.
A delegation of 20 AAP legislators had yesterday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanding a hike in their salaries.
According to reports, the MLAs have cited problems in meeting expenses that include the cost of maintaining an office in their constituencies, transportation and running a household.
