Sci-fi thriller 'Riddick' has opened up at first place at the US weekend box office with earnings of18.7 million dollars, according to studio estimates.
The movie, which is the third instalment in the series, stars Vin Diesel, who plays the role of an intergalactic criminal who can see the in the dark, Fox News reported.
The second place was bagged by Lee Daniels' 'The Butler' with 8.9 million dollars in its fourth weekend at the box office.
The Spanish-language comedy 'Instructions Not Included' earned third place in its second weekend with 8.1 million dollars, while Jennifer Aniston's raunchy adult comedy 'We're the Millers' came fourth with 7.9 million dollars.
The fifth spot was claimed by Disney's animated film 'Planes', a spin-off from Pixar's Cars franchise which took 4.37 million dollars.
