Tuesday evening's earthquake in Pakistan, measuring 7.7 on the Richter Scale, was so violent, that it has created a new small island from the sea floor.

The new island has appeared off the coast of Gwadar in the Arabian Sea, and is estimated to be about 30 meters long and around 10 meters high, the BBC reports.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake, which occurred 66 kilometers north-east of Awaran in south-west Pakistan, was felt as far away as Karachi, Hyderabad, and Delhi.

A spokesman for Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority, Mirza Kamran Zia, said the death toll is likely to rise.

Some people are still trapped under the rubble of collapsed houses, the report added.

The provincial government has declared an emergency in Awaran and the military has mobilised 200 soldiers and paramilitary troops to conduct relief work.
