Congress leader Manish Tewari on Saturday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should vote to uphold the pluralistic and secular character of India.

Tewari urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to keep in mind the interests of both India and their state while casting their votes during the fifth and final phase of assembly elections in the state.

"We do hope that the people of Jammu, who are voting in the final phase, would vote to uphold the pluralistic and secular character of India. They would keep the interest of both Jammu and Kashmir and India in mind while they exercise their franchise," Tewari told ANI here.

The fifth and final phase of assembly elections is presently underway in 20 assembly seats of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The counting of votes will take place on December 23.
