Polling is underway for the fifth and last phase of panchayat elections in West Bengal amidst tight security.
Almost 65 lakh people will cast their vote in four districts - North and South Dinajpur, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri. The number of seats being contested today is 8342.
Since the panchayat polls commenced in West Bengal on July 11, the state has been witnessing violence due to clashes amongst different party workers. Some incidents have led to killings.
The first fourth phases were held on July 11, 15, 19 and 22. Votes will be counted on July 29.
