Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, has been replaced with Vice President-elect Mike Pence as the head of his White House transition team by the President-elect Donald Trump.

Taking an unprecedented move, Trump also named three of his own children and his son-in-law to the executive committee overseeing the transition, reports the Guardian.

Replacement of Christie comes in the wake of impeachment calls being faced by him following the conviction of two former aides in the so-called "Bridgegate" scandal.

However, Christie denied the allegations being leveled against him.

Christie was among the first to endorse Trump after dropping out from the primary race to the elections.

Trump in a statement on Friday said, Indiana governor Pence would "build on the initial work" done by Christie.

"Together, we will begin the urgent task of rebuilding this nation, specifically jobs, security and opportunity," he added.
