Describing the rising number of deaths linked with the Vyapam scam as 'a deep involvement between crime and corruption', Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday accused 'normally outspoken' Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'famous for his tweets' of being silent on this sordid affair.

"There is Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government at the Centre and BJP Government in the state, but still nothing is being done. And the worst thing is that a normally outspoken Prime Minister, if nothing else, his tweets are famous or infamous, has said not a single word on this entire sordid affair. Not one tweet, not one communication. So, nobody knows what the Prime Minister is thinking," Yechury told ANI here.

"This is the worst type of crony capitalism that is being built and this is now becoming a habit by the government to encourage corruption with crime," he added.

The CPI (M) leader further described the Vyapam scam as an unprecedented event.

"We are seeing for the first time such a deep involvement between crime and corruption. Anybody associated with this scam, however remotely, have all been victims of mysterious deaths. All this is not natural. Something sinister is happening. It is necessary for our system to get to the bottom of this. The guilty should be punished," he added.

Yechury further said that the Left Parties have demanded an independent CBI probe into this case under the Supreme Court's supervision.

"We will hold an All India protest on July 20. And on 21st, when the Parliament opens, I am sure this will be reflected in the Parliament and the government will be put in the dock," he said.
