Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday accused the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of acting 'stubborn' by refusing a CBI probe into the Vyapam scam.
"Such a big scam took place. Lakh of youth have been cheated. Around 2,000 people are in jail, with another 500 people are absconding. Around 40 people have died and in such a situation, if the CBI conducts an inquiry, nobody should have any objections. I am not able to understand why the BJP and the state government are being so stubborn," Digvijay Singh said.
The Congress Party has been demanding a fair and transparent probe into the 2013 scam and the immediate removal of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from office.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also agreed to hear a petition against Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav to ensure a fair inquiry into the Vyapam scam.
The matter is scheduled to be heard on July 9.
