Union Minister for Minority Affairs Najma Heptullah has said that it will be her endeavor to focus on the promotion of localized skills for all communities of the nation, be they Hindu, Muslim, Sikhs, Buddhists or Christians.
Announcing the launch of six education and skill development centres recently via video conferencing from the Girls' College in Mansa town, Heptullah said that the six centres would be opened in the villages of Heron Kalan, Kulrian, Ablu, Warring Khera, Nag Kalan and Malerkotla.
She revealed that a similar program in madrasas in Uttar Pradesh has achieved some measure of success.
The aim is to train villagers in beauty and wellness skills, data entry operating, chikankari, sewing machine operating and phulkari (embroidery).
The skills development program was launched in the presence of Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur.
The overall objective of the scheme is to create jobs for minority communities, preserving the traditional skills of these communities and facilitating their links with markets.
