The body of war criminal Ghulam Azam, who died Thursday night, has been handed over to his family.
Jail authorities handed over his body at around 7.30 a.m. this morning after Dhaka Medical College doctors had completed autopsy formalities, the Daily Star quoted Tajul Islam, the lawyer of the former Jamaat ameer, as saying.
Ghulam Azam's son Abdullahil Aman Azmi received the body and took it to their Moghbazar residence in Dhaka.
Ghulam Azam, 92, died shortly after 10 p.m.last night at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
He had been sentenced to serve 90 years in prison for crimes committed against humanity in 1971, which included leading the auxiliary forces which assisted the Pakistan military in one of the worst genocide in history.
