Australian Test batsman David Warner's father shed tears as he reflected on the turbulence of recent months, which culminated with the player getting the first Ashes century of his career, also the most important one.

According to News.com.au, for Howard Warner, it was a knock he hopes has repaired his boy's reputation with Australian cricket fans.

His eyes welled up as he spoke of Warner's journey and generosity, which has seen the Test opener buy his parents a new 700,000-dollar house and pay off personal debts, the report said.

Warner senior said that he was shaking like a leaf and could not believe it, adding that his son's innings just showed real maturity and it was great.

A former hardware salesman, Howard admits the criticism of his son became so fierce he stopped checking news bulletins, the report added.

However, his son has morphed from Ashes villain to hero in a matter of months, a period highlighted by the Test opener's blossoming romance with ironwoman Candice Falzon, according to the report.
