Australian opener David Warner has admitted that his baggy green Test cap came too easy for him, adding that after two years, he has finally understood how little he appreciated the hard work and effort required to make it in Test cricket and how he almost wasted the opportunity.

Warner revealed that six months ago, this Boxing Day Test seemed beyond him as having made headlines for the wrong reasons, he was then shipped off to South Africa during the winter as punishment with negative thoughts running through his head.

According to Telegraph.com.au, Warner said that he finally realized that he was throwing away his gift of a baggy green, which many Australian only dream of, adding that he took things for granted when his batting talent enabled him to make his Test debut without the first-class experience so many players have when called up.

Warner also said that the truth hit home when he realized that a lot of Australians do not think much of him, adding that he is now working hard, changing his mindset and looking at challenges and obstacles coming up against him on a particular day instead of worrying about things down the track.
