Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee who steered Watergate Scandal coverage dies at 93

The former Executive Editor of The Washington Post, Ben Bradlee, who went down in history as the formidable editor of a newspaper that relentlessly covered the Watergate Scandal leading to the resignation of United States President Richard Nixon in August 1974, has passed away at the age of 93.

Bradlee was suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past several years and was receiving medical care at the home he shared with his wife, journalist Sally Quinn, in Washington since mid-September. He died due to natural causes on Tuesday, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

He served as the executive editor of the newspaper from 1968 until his retirement in September 1991. He is known for defying the Nixon administration and publishing the Pentagon Papers that ultimately unveiled the Watergate Scandal.

He was immortalized in the 1976 classic film All the President's Men which was based on the scandal.

Bradlee received the Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, from President Barack Obama in November 2013.
