Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka has reached his second consecutive Grand Slam semi-final by knocking out reigning champion Novak Djokovic from the Australian Open in an epic five-set quarter final on Tuesday.
The No.8 seed earned revenge for his heartbreaking defeat a year earlier by taking down the Serbian world number two 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7 in a four-hour epic match at the Rod Laver Arena.
According to Telegraph.com.au, the duo have played five sets for the third consecutive time at a Grand Slam, with last year's the fourth longest match in Australian Open history (five hours and two minutes) which Djokovic won 12-10 in the decider.
The report mentioned that Wawrinka, who had not beaten Djokovic since 2006 and had lost their previous 14 meetings, would next face Czech Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals.
The loss ended Djokovic's stunning run at Melbourne Park - his previous loss dated back to the 2010 quarter finals, the report added.
