Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state vice president Jayprakash Majumdar was arrested on Saturday in connection with a fraud case related to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exam.

A case was registered against Majumdar in July 2016 for allegedly cheating a person of Rs. 7 lakh.

The Bidhanagar Police interrogated Majumdar for eight hours following which he was arrested

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, BJP leader Rahul Sinha accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) party for indulging in "vindictive politics."

"We believe in the judicial process and we will take this issue in front of the people. What kind of vindictive politics is this? Ever since their (TMC) party members started getting implicated in chit fund scam, at the same time they are trying to frame similar charges against us. We condemn this kind of tactics," Sinha told ANI.

Majumdar, has been booked under section 420 (cheating), section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and section 506 (threat to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

It was alleged that Majumdar was solicited by some people to favour a Supreme Court decision on their favour in connection with malpractices in TET exams.
