Launching another salvo on the West Bengal government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration and the Kolkata police of having joined hands in an attempt to save the TMC MP's son who has been accused in the fatal hit-and-run case of an IAF corporal.
"It's a classic case where the TMC administration and the Kolkata police were trying to a save a TMC leader's son in a hit-and-run case. When the public pressure mounted because of the media and BJP they decided that things are going against them, so after hundred hours they finally arrested him," BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh told ANI.
He asserted that the arrest of the TMC MP's son proves the functioning of the state government and the Kolkata police.
Sambia Sohrab was arrested around 11.10 pm last night while he was heading towards his in-laws' house.
Following questioning, he is likely to be produced before the court here on Sunday as he faces charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
Sambia is TMC leader Mohammad Sohrab's son and last Wednesday, he allegedly ran over IAF corporal Abhimanyu Gaud amidst the Republic Day parade rehearsal in Kolkata.
