WB polls: Over 21 percent voting recorded till 9 a.m.

The fourth phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections being held across 49 constituencies witnessed 21.69 percent voter turnout till 9 a.m.

The fourth phase of the Assembly elections, which began at 7 am today amid tight security arrangements, is being held on 33 seats of North 24 Parganas and 16 seats of Howrah districts.

A total of 1.08 crore voters will decide the fates of 345 candidates, including 40 women, by exercising their franchise across 12,500 polling stations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier urged the voters to turn out for voting in large numbers.

"As the 4th Phase of the West Bengal polls commences, calling upon those who are voting today to do so in record numbers," he tweeted.

672 companies of Central security forces are actively helping the 22 thousand personnel of the state police.
