Lauding Narendra Modi's 'patriotism' in Godhra when he was the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday said that they have immense respect for the Prime Minister but added that they were extremely disappointed with his reaction on the controversy surrounding the performance of Pakistani Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali.
"Prime Minister Modi is the leader of this nation because of what he did during Godhra. It was that patriotism which we respect so much. Which is why we are disappointed over what he said. What he said today was befitting a Prime Minister, but not him individually," Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told ANI.
"But we have no remorse over what the Shiv Sainiks did and will be proud forever," he added.
Raut, however, clarified that his disappointment was not directed towards the Prime Minister's reaction on the Dadri case as it had nothing to do with Maharashtra.
"We don't have anything to say in the Dadri matter as it is not related to Maharashtra. But we have always maintained our stand that 'beef' should not be dragged into politics. We are only concerned about Ghulam Ali and Kasuri," he said.
