If you love to trot around in stilettos, you might want to change your habit as a new study has claimed that women who wear 10 cm high heels over 3 times per week developed an imbalance of 4 functional ankle muscles.
While wearing high-heeled shoes appeared to strengthen ankle muscles at first, prolonged use eventually caused an imbalance, which is a crucial predictor of ankle injury.
Dr. Yong-Seok Jee, co-author of the article said that it was hence clinically important for wearers to regularly perform ankle strengthening exercises, such as heel walking, toe tappers, and heel raises, and to limit the frequency of wearing high-heeled shoes as preventative measures.
The study is published in the International Journal of Clinical Practice.
