As many as 13 infants have died in the past 72 hours in the government-run Malda Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal.
Hospital authorities confirmed on Friday that 13 deaths were reported after the infants were admitted to the hospital in critical condition. All the children brought to the hospital were underweight.
"Till now, death of 13 infants has been recorded in the past 72 hours and there are nearly 250 infants still admitted at the hospital," said vice-principal of Medical College, M. A. Rashid.
The hospital, which provides healthcare services to the state and other nearby areas, has been witnessing crib deaths since the beginning of this year.
More than 200 infants mostly from Bihar, Jharkhand and other nearby areas were admitted in the hospital.
In a similar case last month, at least eight infants lost their lives in just 48 hours.
