The West Bengal State Election Commission has called an all-party meet on Monday to discuss the poll preparedness in seven municipalities, after a Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court directed it to complete elections in all seven by June 16.
State Election Commissioner Susanta Ranjan Uppadhya said that recognised political parties of West Bengal have been invited for the meeting.
Earlier, the Division Bench stuck to the judgment of the court and ruled out the plea of the state government, which sought more time for holding elections. The state government, in its petition before the court, had said that it will hold elections in seven municipalities after the realignment process of the areas of the civic bodies are over.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government is reportedly considering to move the Supreme Court against the High Court's order.
The municipalities in question are Jamuria, Kulti, Asansol, Ranigunj in Burdwan district, Bidhannagar, Rajarhat-Gopalpur in North 24 Paraganas and Bally in Howrah District.
