West Bengal: Locals stage protest over brutal killing of college student in North 24 Parganas

Standing up against criminal activities in his area cost a second year college student his life, forcing enraged locals to stage vociferous protests and block roads and rail lines.

Twenty-year-old Sourav Choudhury was reportedly abducted by some assailants on Friday night and later hacked to death.

On Saturday morning, the locals passing through the area discovered his severed body parts, which had been lying near the railway tracks.

Furious locals immediately blocked the rail lines and the key Jessore Road where later on police had to resort to a lathicharge to disperse the crowds.

North 24 Parganas Superintendent-of-Police (SP) Tonmoy Roy Chowdhury said, "We have started a case pertaining to this incident. The investigation has started although no arrests have been made. Many are being questioned related to this case.
