Instant messaging platform WhatsApp announced that the administrators of group chats on the app can soon add a description for the group.
In a new update rolled out for select users, the company said all members of a group chat who have access to the feature can modify the description as per requirement by tapping on the 'Add Group Description' option.
The group description will be visible to participants of this group and people invited to the group, the Independent reported.
The feature could come in handy, especially when group chats are created for a particular purpose, such as an event, meeting, or any other occasion.
However, access to this feature could lead to regular modifications, or further still, misuse of power. To counter this, WhatsApp said admins would be able to prevent non-admins from modifying a group description in the days to come.
The function is currently available to users of the beta version of WhatsApp on Android, and is expected to be rolled out to iOS users in the coming weeks.
