Whistleblowing website WikiLeaks has reportedly set up a website to collect charity money to free former NSA analyst Edward Snowden.

The website, 'Free Snowden' allows donations by credit card, PayPal, bank transfer, WePay payment and virtual currencies Bitcoin and Litecoin.

According to The Verge, the site has so far raised 21,660 dollars and 116 bitcoins or 22,950 dollars for Snowden's legal defense and its associated public campaign.

Snowden has been charged with espionage for leaking highly classified data about the US' alleged secret surveillance programme.

He has been currently living in temporary asylum granted by Russia, which will expire in August 2014.

Snowden has not said much about the WikiLeaks foundation publicly, and has hired Kremlin lawyer Anatoly Kucherna to fight against his potential extradition to the US.
