Kejriwal shared his thoughts via a series of tweets.

"We hv agreed to all demands of docs. I personally intervened. Yet they r not calling off strike. Why? What else is left now?"

"Patients suffering.I appeal 2 docs 2 return 2 duty.I am their biggest well wisher. If dey have more demands, v will agree to them also"

"But causing inconvenience to public is wrong. We hv been forced to invoke ESMA"

"If they still don't return, then in public interest, we will be left wid no option but to take harsh steps"

The Delhi Government had earlier in the day given a deadline of 11 a.m. to all the resident doctors on strike to resume work with immediate effect. When the doctors failed to do so, the city government imposed the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to ensure that they do the same.

On Monday, the resident doctors began an indefinite strike here demanding more rooms, cleaner environment, and better salaries and working hours.

The doctors' association had given June 21 as the deadline to respond to their demands.
