England midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that their captain Wayne Rooney is a natural leader and the 'dad' in their dressing room and brings the squad together.
Rooney clocks up 99 games for his country in Sunday's Euro 2016 qualifier in Estonia. And teammate Wilshere has been enthralled at how the Manchester United star has unified England's young dressing room.
Arsenal midfielder Wilshere said that Rooney is a natural leader, adding that even when Steven Gerrard was captain, the striker was a big voice in the dressing room, The Mirror reported.
Wilshere said that Rooney gets everyone going, he encourages and he's not scared to tell a player when they are doing something wrong. He said that the striker is the only one now who has been playing for England for 10 years, with the likes of Gerrard, adding that he has been through that generation.
Wilshere said that now it really feels like Rooney is the dad figure, adding that he puts his arm around them, brings them together and gets them going.
The Arsenal midfielder said that ever since he came into the squad Rooney was like that, and added that the skipper is just a natural leader. He said that the United star loves the game and he is first out to training.
Wilshere said that one can tell Rooney's hunger has never changed and it is refreshing to see.
