The winter session of the Parliament ended on Friday as both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were adjourned sine die.

Adjournment sine die is a Latin phrase that means "without day" or without assigning a day for a further meeting or hearing.

On the last day of this session's proceedings, both Houses were adjourned for short durations after BJP lawmakers demanded an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'rape in India' remark.

The former Congress party president, however, refused to apologise.

This session witnessed the passage of contentious The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, SPG (Amendment) Bill and Chit Fund (Amendment) Bill.

The CAB has now become the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 after President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to it on Thursday.

According to the Act, members of the Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Zoroastrian communities who have come from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh till December 31, 2014, and facing religious persecution there will not be treated as illegal immigrants but given Indian citizenship.
