Nuri Bilge Ceylan has won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes 2014 for his film 'Winter Sleep', it has been revealed.

The movie, which is based on the story of a family running a hotel in the snowy Turkish mountains, emerged out of 17 other contenders to earn the top prize, the BBC reported.

The director dedicated his award to all the young people in Turkey and to those who lost their lives last year in a coal mine explosion in Soma.
