The year 2017 brought not twice or thrice but four times joy and happiness for the Barnala based couple Ramandeep Kaur and Ranvir Singh as they were blessed with quadruplets on December 16 last year.

The couple had a history of infertility for past seven years. They had been to many hospitals and consulted numerous doctors but there was no luck. They came to Rana IVF Centre, Ludhiana in February last year.

They were counseled regarding all the treatment options and finally they were taken up for In vitro fertilisation (IVF) in May. The patient conceived in the first cycle itself and was diagnosed to have quadruplets. They decided to go ahead with all the four pregnancies.

As multiple pregnancy has a high risk of various complications, her pregnancy was meticulously monitored by Dr Vijaydeep Kaur, IVF Specialist and Chief Gynecologist at Rana IVF Centre. She was admitted to the hospital in her seventh month and was on complete bed rest so that the pregnancy could continue for as long as possible and the children were not born prematurely.

With careful diet planning, hematinics and other nutritional and hormonal support, the babies gained good weight and were delivered on December 16 at 8.2 months with birth weights of 1.8 kg, 1.46 kg, 1.34 kg and 990 grams which is a very good outcome for a quadruplet pregnancy.

All the children were very active right from birth and did not require any respiratory support. "It is a milestone achievement for Rana IVF Centre as these are the first quadruplets born in North India," said Dr Kaur. "We wish to achieve many more milestones in the future and serve the people of this region to the best of our abilities." she said.
