Women buying condoms in Dubai could face jail, as pharmacists in the Arab state are reportedly receiving backhanders every time they tell police of an unmarried woman buying the contraceptives.

Arab state prohibit sexual relations between a couple until they are married, and any breach of that strict law is listed as a "boyfriend" crime, the Daily Star reported.

According to a female source, Dubai isn't a safe place any more, especially for unmarried young women.

The insider said that a lot of women living out there don't know that police get rewards for the more people they arrest - it works in their favour to use underhand tactics.

The woman said she witnessed one young woman being dragged into a police car outside a pharmacy, which according to her is terrifying.

She asserted that there is CCTV everywhere in Dubai, it has always been that way but now it is becoming sinister.

The source said that women need to be careful while buying a pack of condoms in Dubai.
