Women rights activist Kavita Krishnan on Saturday accused the Samajwadi Party of encouraging rapes in Uttar Pradesh by making statements supporting such crimes.

"I think that the Uttar Pradesh Government and Samajwadi Party are encouraging rapes as their leaders keep making statements that encourage such incidents. They have been shielding rapists in the state," said Krishnan.

"There is no doubt in the fact that rape cases are increasing in Uttar Pradesh. We want UP women to come and question the state government, in fact they should be questioned in court," she added.

Earlier today, Yadav stated that the least number of rapes take place in UP.

Yesterday, the SP chief had said that the state government should not be expected to keep a check on each and every crime over the deteriorating law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

His response comes after another brutal gangrape and murder of a woman in Lucknow's Mohanlalganj has come to light.
