Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will play at the Players Championship next month as the American will continue his traditional tune-up for the second major of the year, the US Open.

The 14-time major champion tied for 17th at five-under overall in the recently concluded Augusta Masters on his return after a two-month sabbatical from the game.

Woods hasn't played the PGA Tour's flagship event on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass since he won the title in 2013, Sport24 reported.

Woods stated on Twitter that he was looking forward to going back to the Players this year and hoping for a repeat of 2013.

Following the conclusion of Augusta Masters, Woods had expressed that he needs more time to work on his game and 'go back to the drawing board' and refine what he was doing.

Earlier this year, Woods had withdrawn from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in February, his second start of the season, because of tightness in his back, stating that he was taking an indefinite break from the professional game.
