A worker has been killed in an electrical accident at a World Cup stadium in Brazil where he had been installing communications equipment.
The worker named Muhammad Ali Maciel Afonso, who was 32-year-old, reportedly died after being electrocuted at the new Arena Pantanal stadium in the western city of Cuiba.
According to the BBC, the worker passed away on Thursday while working on level 20 of the stadium after he was hit by an electrical discharge.
Police is reportedly investigating the cause of the accident.
FIFA's secretary general Jerome Valcke posted on Twitter that he has been saddened by the death of worker Afonso at Arena Pantanal, adding that his thoughts are with the worker' family and his colleagues.
Even though it is reportedly the first fatality at the Cuiaba stadium, this death has taken the toll to eight workers who have died in accidents while preparing arena's for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.
The Arena Pantanal is one of the several stadiums that have still not been finished with just a few weeks left before the World Cup kickoff next month, with Brazil's preparations being marred by accidents and missed deadlines, the report added.
