Former wrestling star and Japanese politician Antonio Inoki has taken up the task of easing tension between North Korea and the global powers by organizing a wrestling tournament that will see participation from wrestlers belonging to different nations, a report said.
About 21 wrestlers will take part in the event that has been scheduled for the end of the month in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, reported The Independent.
Inoki remarked that sporting events always bring people together and hoped that the event will ease the international tension with Kim Jong-un's regime. He said that unlike Olympic Games, where the competition takes place between countries, this tournament will allow spectators to cheer for any wrestler, irrespective of which country they represent and will therefore, unite them as one.
The 71-year-old has although retired from the ring but is still well-known in the United States for a 1976 match in Tokyo against Muhammad Ali that ended in a draw. The match was considered a precursor to mixed martial arts.
