As many as five different state departments are yet to give a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Yamuna River cleaning project resulting in a delay in the implementation of the action plan for reviving the polluted river.

People associated with the project are of the view that the government is doing their part but other bodies, like water corporation, associated with the plan are not doing their job properly.

An ENT surgeon Devasheesh Bhattacharya, who is associated with the cleaning project of Yamuna, stated that the Uttar Pradesh government had released Rs 460 crores for cleaning the river but water board did not make proper use of the money.

He further stated that if we want to save the river then, individually, we should take a vow to not make the Yamuna dirty.

"UP government had given 460 crores for Yamuna cleaning. It had sent the money to water corporation but no good use was made of the money. The government spends enough on the project but we hardly notice any change on the ground," Bhattacharya said.

"People should vow not to make the river dirty. I think this will be enough to make it clean," he added.

Senior journalist Brij Khandelwal, on the other hand, put the onus of miserable condition of the Yamuna on political leaders. He said that instead of coming out with a feasible solution, politicians are making it an issue to harvest political gains.

"Yamuna is in miserable condition because there is a lack of political will. There is no dearth of funds, technologies or infrastructure," Khandelwal said.

Further targeting the BJP government in the northern states, he said, "BJP government is there in almost every state related to the Yamuna. But still one cannot see things changing. Earlier, they had this excuse that other parties are responsible for the situation."

While a local resident, Harendra Gupta, blamed both people and administration for the current situation of the Yamuna, a worker associated with the cleaning project, Jugal Kishore suggested that River Police should be appointed to keep a check on the development of the cleaning plan.
