CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechuri has congratulated Nepal's new Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and expressed hoped that the relations between New Delhi and Kathmandu would reach new heights.
"Well first of all congratulations to Comrade K P Oli, he is an old friend of ours and the chairman of the Communist Party of the Unified Marxist-Leninist with whom the CPI (M) has very good fraternal relations," Yechury told ANI on the sidelines of a convention on anti-war and anti-communalism in Agartala
"He is an old good friend of India and so we hope the recent unfortunate raptures that had happened in the Indo-Nepal relations.. Those issues will also be amicably resolved," he added.
Yechury further said Oli has taken the responsibility as the Prime Minister at a very challenging time in Nepal.
"On this republican constitution which they have adopted, which we have congratulated the people of Nepal for finally doing it after ten years, that has to be brought under implementation. And that is a very historic job of the government now headed by K P Oli," he added.
Veteran communist leader Oli was yesterday elected as the country's Prime Minister under the newly introduced constitutional system.
CPN-UML chairman Oli garnered 338 votes, 39 more than the 299 that he needed to be elected as the Prime Minister while Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala could only secure 249 votes.
