A group of nurses from Coimbatore are struggling for survival after being rescued from Yemen in April.
Anitha, a nurse who came back from Yemen, has applied for financial assistance from the government.
"For the last five months, we were working there (Yemen) without any salary. All our certificates are held up in Yemen. They sent us back by just giving us our passports. We are facing a lot of hardships after letting go of our certificates, and without any earning. We request both the state and central governments to provide us with some sort of permanent means of employment or compensation," said Anitha, a nurse.
Another nurse, Shiny, who went to Yemen two years ago and was rescued, said she was finding it difficult to make both ends meet.
"We were earning nearly 50,000 rupees as monthly salary. My family is dependent on me for their survival. For the last two months, we have been facing a lot of hardships," says Shiny.
Earlier on Monday, a group of the nurses approached District Collectorate in Coimbatore to seek help from the government.
Hundreds of Indian nurses who went to Yemen for work had to return back after a war erupted between the Shia rebels and the Saudi-led coalition of nations.
