A new study has examined that almost all young people give misleading information to companies online because they don't trust them.

A new survey by data Intelligence Company found that two out of three people purposely wrote wrong things in online forms because they did not trust the companies they were giving information to, the Independent reported.

According to the study, 67 per cent of people think companies should be more open about what was the main reason for seeking information, and 94 per cent believe that they should be told more about how their data is going to be used.

Richard Laws, GBG's CEO asserted that data is the fuel of the digital economy, and if there was not enough or if it was of poor quality, businesses will not survive.

The study found that 18-24 year olds were particularly likely to lie, with 81 per cent saying that'd did so and older people were less likely to, with 59 per cent of over 65s saying that they did not.
