As the second Youth National Boxing Championships kicked off here at the National Boxing Academy, Delhi boys stole the show on the opening day with as many as three boxers registering comprehensive victories on Saturday.
In the last encounter of the day, light-welter weight Ankur Chahal outclassed the lanky boxer from Tamil Nadu R. Dhanush to advance into the next round of the tournament with a comprehensive 5-0 score.
In another contest, Delhi youngster Ritik also made his way into the next round after getting the better of Telangana's Rayees.
Ritik got off to a slow start but caught up with his opponent's speed eventually and peppered him with his vicious blows to emerge victorious by unanimous decision.
However, it was curtains for another Delhi boxer Shubham (56 kg) who couldn't cope with the pace of Uttarakhand's Pawan Gurung and bowed out.
In the women's department, Aditi (45-48 kg) also went down to Andhra Pradesh's G. Ramya in a lop-sided affair as she lost 0-5 to her opponent.
Elsewhere, Tamil Nadu's Mohan Kumar (49 kg) romped past Orissa's Manish Jena with a score of 5-0 whereas Telangana's Navya (60 kg) couldn't cope from the high-velocity punches from Tamil Nadu's Ramya as the referee stopped the contest in the first round itself.
However, R. Akash's (56 kg) bout was halted by the referee in the second round by Chandigarh's Vivek as he booked his place in the next round.
