Former Pakistani captain Zaheer Abbas, who has recently assumed the role of International Cricket Council (ICC) president, has said that he would make strenuous efforts for the revival of bilateral cricketing ties between India and Pakistan despite being in a ceremonial post.
"Being in a ceremonial post does not mean I can't do anything. I love this game and in the next one year I want to contribute something to world cricket", the Dawn quoted Abbas as saying.
He said that he wants to play a role in helping revive India-Pak cricket matches because the people of both countries want the matches to take place. Abbas added that having regular bilateral ties was also necessary for the sport's global image.
The ICC boss further said he knows that it was not an easy task because the cricket ties were ruled by political relations between the two countries.
Abbas, however, insisted that he wanted to do something in this direction.
