BMW can be credited with creating new segments and staying on top of the game. BMW X1 and X6 are some of the examples. When the company came out with X6 in 2008, they created a new segment - Sports Activity Coupe - and where many thought they would fail, the X6 went on to sell more than 250,000 units globally. Now, BMW is upping the game further with the second generation X6 with more powerful engines and features. The prices of the new X6 will be revealed soon and the car will be available at the dealerships from December 2014 in the US and Indian launch is expected to happen soon after.

The engine range includes range topping V8 petrol and two V6 diesel engines to be available initially at the launch. The BMW X6 xDrive50i comes with the latest generation V8 petrol engine that develops 450 hp while the X6 xDrive30d gets the 258 hp six-cylinder in-line diesel engine. Another straight-six diesel with three turbochargers pumping a maximum power of 381 hp is fitted in the BMW X6 M50d. BMW has also lined up BMW X6 xDrive35i with 306 hp and BMW X6 xDrive40d with 313 hp for the model range to be launched in spring 2015. All the variants listed above are all wheel drive but the BMW X6 xDrive35i will also get a rear wheel drive variant in the form of sDrive35i.

The new BMW X6 comes with bi-xenon headlights, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, automatic tailgate operation and the 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission with steering wheel shift paddles, leather trim, two-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and the Driving Assistant safety package from BMW ConnectedDrive as standard equipment. The rear seats can be 40 : 20 : 40 split/fold allowing the  load capacity to expand from 580 litres to as much as 1,525 litres (75 litres more than the predecessor model).
