Datsun India’s product offensive is being led by the redi-GO, and the hatchback is off to a good start, recording 3000 sales in just 23 days. Priced at Rs 2.39 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, the small car is Datsun’s most affordable model and with it, the Japanese carmaker is hoping to replicate the success of its cousin, the Renault Kwid.

The redi-GO is off to a better start than the GO hatchback or the GO+ MPV, however, it will be crucial for the brand to keep the momentum going. Apart from pricing it competitively to take on the segment leading Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Datsun is offering a standard two year/unlimited kilometre warranty with the option of going up to a five year/unlimited kilometre warranty. Evidently, this is a proactive move by the company to help improve the reputation of its ownership experience, which doesn’t enjoy the same popularity as Maruti or Hyundai.
Powering the baby-Datsun is a 799cc, three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. The motor, which is shared with the Renault Kwid, comes paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 25.17kmpl. Features offered include a single-DIN audio system with AUX/USB support, front power windows and daytime-running LEDs in the front bumper.
The car is currently offered in five variants and five colour options, with prices ranging from Rs 2.39-3.34 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Reports suggest that the model will receive a 1.0-litre petrol engine and an automated manual transmission (AMT), in the future.
